Towards Gishwati, cont'd
These slopes are unimaginably steep for agriculture, yet what you see is what you get. These plots are in various stages of planting planting and growth. My initial reaction was how do you maintain soil from erosion in such a steep environment. Some plots are terraced and some have hedge planting across the slope to divert and slow water but generally it seems left open to the elements. Later on our way back down we encountered a hour long downpour. You'll see the results of erosion.
The white 'ribbon' in the third picture is actually a waterfall. It gives you a further appreciation of the steepness of the topography.
